CBA World Series Game 1 featured an early pitchers duel between New Jersey's Kyle Freeland and Philly's Aaron Nola.  With New Jersey up 2-0 entering the 7th inning, Freeland began to falter and the Phantastics managed to touch him and two New Jersey relievers for a 4-run 7th enroute to a 6-4 win in Game 1.  New Jersey mounted a comeback with two runs in the bottom of the 9th as shaky Philly closer Will Smith struggled to close the door.  But Smith managed to kill the rally with runners on base to earn the 1 and 1/3 inning save.

In a close game the Philly Phantastics got by the New Jersey Beatles by the
score of 6 to 4.

Aaron Nola(3-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for Philly.  He
allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.  Nola whiffed an impressive total of
8 New Jersey batters and allowed 2 gopher balls dropping his ERA from 4.56 to
4.26.  Philly had only 6 hits for the night.

Nola was helped out by Will Smith who recorded his 2nd save.  Jose
Alvarez(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.  He surrendered no hits and no
walks without retiring a batter.

Former Philly Phantastics ace Justin Verlander was traded to the New Jersey Beatles in 2013 for a young OF named Bryce Harper.  Six years later, the ageless Verlander got his revenge in shutting down the Phantastics offense for a 7-2 Beatles victory in Game 2.  Cole Hamels took the loss for Philly, victimized for 5 unearned runs in a 7-run New Jersey fourth inning.

The New Jersey Beatles cruised to a 7 to 2 victory over the Philly Phantastics
at The Cavern (CB).

New Jersey did all of it's offensive work in the 3rd inning when they exploded
for 7 runs on 4 hits.  That was all the offense they were to need.  New
Jersey ended up with 8 hits for the game while Philly had 4.

Justin Verlander(4-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Cole
Hamels(1-2) was the losing pitcher.  New Jersey knocked him around a bit, as
he gave up 7 runs in 4 innings.

New Jersey skipper Steve Adler went to his bullpen early in Game 3 after starter Dallas Keuchel threw two scoreless frames.  Beatles reliever David Robertson threw a scoreless 3rd inning, but immediately ran into trouble in the 4th putting two runners on before giving up a three-run homer to Philly 3rd baseman Matt Chapman.  Philly repeated with another three spot in the 5th, and added 4 more in the 7th as the ball was carrying in South Philadelphia.  Philly's starter was ace Jacob Degrom, who was held back until Game 3 of the W.S. due to his extended 7th game outing to clinch the LCS for Philly last week.  He wasn't at his best today, scattering 10 hits over 9 innings, but he was able to hold down the Jersey offense well enough to give his fatigued bullpen a rest with the complete game.  Philly takes Game three 10-3, taking a 2-1 lead in the World Series.

Jacob Degrom had a complete game as the Philly Phantastics beat the New Jersey
Beatles by a score of 10 to 3.

Nelson Cruz helped send the fans home happy. He tripled in the 4th inning and
clubbed a three-run home run in the 5th inning.  Philly had 11 hits for the
night.

The win was credited to Degrom(2-2) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
David Robertson(2-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He surrendered 3 runs
and 3 hits in 1 inning.

Philly now has a record of 10-6.  With the loss, the New Jersey ballclub's
record is 13-6.

In Game 4, Kyle Freeland and Aaron Nola issued a nearly carbon copy of Game 1's starting pitching performance.  Locked in a 2-2 pitchers duel entering the 8th, Freeland was out of the game and the Beatles fate was in the hands of their setup man Jared Hughes.  Philly chipped away at Hughes, stringing together a walk, double, wild pitch, and single which resulted in a two-run inning to give the home Phantastics faithful plenty to scream about as closer Will Smith came on to close things out in the 9th.  Will Smith threw his first clean inning of the series, striking out the side to preserve the 4-2 Philly victory.  The Phantastics take a 3 games to 1 lead with an opportunity to clinch the championship in before the home crowd in Game 5.

WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Carlos Gomez robbed Robinson Chirinos of an extra base hit.

In a close game the Philly Phantastics got by the New Jersey Beatles by the
score of 4 to 2.

Philly had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base
hits.  Robinson Chirinos led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
Jurickson Profar stepped up next and he doubled scoring a run.  Jared Hughes
then was wild with a pitch.  Chris Taylor was next to bat, but he was a
strikeout victim.  Jackie Bradley Jr came up to bat and slapped a base-hit
scoring the final run of the inning.  Philly out-hit New Jersey for the game,
10 hits to 6.

Aaron Nola(4-1) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Will Smith recorded
his 3rd save.  Hughes(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He pitched 1
and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

For the second time this series, Justin Verlander showed his former team exactly what they missed out on by dealing him.  In another dominating performance, Verlander struck out 9 Phantastics over 7 frames and rode his Beatles' 29-hit 5-HR barrage enroute to a 21-4 New Jersey victory in Game 5.   Phantastics righty Zack Eflin drew his first start of the postseason, and coughed up 7 hits and 3 runs over five innings.  At that point, a close 3-2 game was turned into a laugher when Phantastics relievers proceeded to give up 18 runs over the final four innings.  Lance McCullers, who had been one of Philly's most reliable bullpen workhorses this season, succombed to 15 hits and 12 runs in just 2 and 2/3 innings.  He left the game with an apparent elbow injury, and it appears his entire 2020 CBA season will be lost as a result of this misfortune. Meanwhile, his pride and manhood will be lost for life as a result of the relentless beating he took today.  Philly now holds on to a 3-2 advantage in the series as the action moves across the Walt Whitman bridge and up the New Jersey Turnpike for game 6.

Evan Longoria slammed 2 homeruns as the New Jersey Beatles clobbered the
outmatched Philly Phantastics, 21 to 4.

Longoria had a great evening at the plate.  He stroked a single bringing in a
run in the 6th inning, launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand
Slam homerun in the 7th inning, doubled in the 8th inning and blasted a
two-run home run in the 9th inning.  New Jersey bats were very productive in
the 6th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 7 hits and the 7th inning which
saw them score 8 runs on 8 hits.  Offensively, New Jersey was a juggernaut.
They scored in 6 separate innings.

The victory was credited to Justin Verlander(5-1) who went 7 innings, allowing
4 runs. Zach Eflin(0-1) was charged with the loss.  'The ball was jumping off
my bat' Longoria said.  'I didn't do anything differently, it's the same way
I always approach the game.'

Game 6 shaped up to be another pitcher's duel, as their ace Jacob DeGrom faced off against Beatles southpaw Dallas Keuchel.
But for the second straight start, Keuchel received an early hook after cruising through the Philly lineup in two scoreless frames.
In identical fashion to Game 3, Keuchel was followed by David Robertson who pitched a scoreless third and then faltered in the 4th by giving up 3 ER on two hits and a walk.  Robertson was followed by Alvarez, who also struggled to record the final out of the inning after relinquishing 3 more hits and another run.  Armed with a 5-1 lead, DeGrom cruised for several innings before running into trouble in the 7th.  With two outs in the inning and two runners on, he served up a three-run HR to slick hitting Beatles 3rd baseman Rafael Devers.  This brought the Philly lead down to just 1 as the teams entered the 8th.  After a scoreless 8th and top frame of the 9th, Will Smith came on again attempting to earn his third save of the series.  In shaky fashion, Smith struggled - allowing the winning runs to reach scoring position with zero outs in the inning.  But in a heart stopping sequence, Smith was somehow able to retire Willians Astudillo on a line out, Avisail Garcia on a strikeout, and Martin Maldonado on a ground out.  With two New Jersey baserunners standing on 2nd and 3rd and the home fans sitting in stunned silence, the third putout of the ninth was recorded by the jubilant Phantastics 1b Jurickson Profar.   The Philly Phantastics were winners of their 4th CBA Championship in their storied history - and their first since 2010!

Trea Turner had 2 base hits as the Philly Phantastics outscored the New Jersey
Beatles 5 to 4.

Philly scored 4 runs in the 4th inning when they came up with 5 base hits.
The key at-bat was by Nelson Cruz who disappointed the partisan crowd when he
popped a two-run clout over the fence.  New Jersey made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The winning pitcher was Jacob Degrom(3-2) who allowed 4 runs in 7 innings.
Will Smith earned the save, his 4th.  David Robertson(2-2) was the loser in
relief.

Steven Adler was clearly disappointed after the game.  'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
